Hi everyone. Hoping to get some help figuring out what is wrong with a particular entry of mine. legionofangels.net/gm/archives/archive-092007.htmlit only happens in the archives i think. (never got the chance to check main page because i have it set to show only 1 entry at a time) the entry name is "love?". and for some reason, it will always wrap all entries below inside it's div container. i've checked all the other months, and none of them hold other entries inside their div box container. at first i thought it was because maybe it was set to "keep this entry at the top of main page" when it was written. but i checked and it's not. (or maybe it was and i set it back to off) but it never gets fixed. and i've rebuilt the files many times after making changes hoping it works but nothing. any ideas of where in the templates i can fix this? you can check the other months for yourself if you feel like it. www.legionofangels.net/angelarchive.phpthanks in advanced.

It looks like you lost one of your </div> tags. Here is a tip to make it easier to find which tag you missed, do something like the following then rebuild page.
<div class="actualentry">
</div><!-- end of actualentry -->
This should make it easier to find.
Also you can tag your templates the same way.
<!-- start of customone -->
<!-- end of customone -->

thank you for your fast reply. i went ahead and added some in order to find who the real culprit was. and...i'm actually still pretty stummped.
i think i found it, but i don't understand why greymatter fails to finish the div for that specific entry only. i'm using firefox to help me because W3C cannot check this dcoument because of some invalid characters used. and i don't know what it's talking about. W3C says..
and firefox says:
both of which i do not agree with.
i believe it's REAL location is here which should be after line 76 using Firefoxe's pagesource viewer
remember. all this code is GENERATED by greymatter when it combines my stiles with the entries in it's database thingy. for some reason, my styles are applied correctly for EVERY ENTRY except this one. here is how it should show up, and how it shows up for all entries.
thanks to your suggestion, i find out that it's missing ><!-- end of archive entry border -->
and i cannot explain it at all. i am hoping someone could explain this to me. >.< how and where do i fix it?

ok. um...nvm i fixed the problem. (not really)
i gave up on figuring it out and it's inconsistencies and moved the border div somewhere else.
instead of using "Archive Date Grouping Header Template" for my border and using "Archive Date Grouping Footer Template" to close it. i decided to instead incorporate my border inside the "Archive Entry Template: Standard Entries" template instead.
that fixed everything and gave me what i wanted. thank you for your time.

This is cause by some of the type characters in the web page not matching the meta text tag. Here is the meta text tag from your page: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8"/> Every character on the page must fall into the charset utf-8 for the page to be valid. If you look at the page in question you will see this is a character that does not match the charset listed in the meta text tag. This normally happens during copy and paste operations, due to the Operating System inserting the wrong text code for things like left quotes, right quotes and so on. A good web page that will show the ins and outs of entity codes is www.cookwood.com/html/extras/entities.html#charAlso note that in all xhtml tags that end with /> there should be a space before the / Hope this helps, Carlos

thanks. yah i found out tha's the reason a lot of my entries had curly quotes and were messing up. my friend (who owns the website) really got pissed about this and couldnt' figure out what the best way to go about this was.
i thought it was just as easy as making sure we never copy paste from Word, or that if we did, to simply disable curly quotes. or suggest we all just type our entries straight into GM or a notepad.
he on the other hand feels that this isn't good enough and even thinks that we could still get incorrect characters typing directly into GM and believes it has happend. so i was wondering if i should go so far as to change the charset i choose to use, or wut? which is the most common? which one allows e acutes? or spanish n's? and which one is best so that the end user never has to try to adust their browsers encoding?

The best way is to use the entity codes, but I know it takes a little more time. You could do a GM Search and Replace to fix all you problems, but you need to be careful with this or you might trash everything.
The good news is that I am working on an Editor Mod that will do this for you automatically so you will not need to worry about.

I think your charsets should be ok. Basically its Word that is making the "smart" quotes. Just typing into firefox won't cause this.
There is also some stuff that Greymatter can do (its on my todo list), to automatically replace the smart quotes with the correct character code, or just convert to normal quotes.

Truthfully, its low on the priority list, but it may still make it into 1.7.4. If so, it should be out mid-october.
