Has anybody any clue as to why lately when I post an entry, after writing the files I don't get back to the Greymatter screen but a server can't be found screen? The entry does actually post but 6 times of out 10 it appears to post twice, in which I need to get back to the Greymatter screen and close the doubled entry. All the counter values and links appear fine. I have over 3500 entries, I'm wondering if that might have something to with it - since on my other instance of Greymatter with only a couple hundreds entries it posts fine. I'm running verion 1.7.1 of GM

Hmm, that is a puzzler. Entry number could be a factor, but I wouldn't expect it to be. Do you get the same issue if you don't have 'rebuild' checked?

No, if I don't do a rebuild it's fine, but I need to do a rebuild to update the page and have any changes displayed.

I was wondering if you leave the rebuild unselected when saving, then do a manual rebuild all if you run into issues?
Not that this would be a fun workaround, but I trying to pinpoint where the issue could be occurring. I wonder if when doing the rebuild you are getting a request timeout. The files would still get all built though. If you hit back and then saved your entry again, this would create a double post.
If it happens where you get the server not found error, goto your gm admin page and check to see if the entry shows up, without using the back button.

Added an entry, and after a while got the server not found page. Closed that browser window. Opened up another, went to the GM admin page and looked under edit entries. The latest entry is there.
Must be a request timeout. It does create all the files correctly icluding the archives. Just once in a while it will add the same post twice - seems to do it more often on entries that are small with not a lot of text.
Anyways, it's not that big a deal, just kinda weird. As long as it keeps working, it's cool with me.

Hi Guys, We had a similar issue in 1.7.2 which was fixec - greymatterforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=gmbugreport&action=display&thread=1173823322 - the issue was caused by server timeouts. I got around it until Coldstone fixed the code by extending the timeout in Apache. if you can get a scenario where you can repeat the fault consistently then maybe you could consider using the GM_Trace.pm package i wrote some time back to find hard to find errors - see web.petefinnigan.com/greymatter_mods.htm - for the code. Another option is to look at the access_log and error_log from apache to see what is being "fired" - I have also had some luck in the past investigating web apps by using a packet sniffer like ethereal to see exactly what packets are sent and received - see www.ethereal.com/ - from my PC. hth cheers Pete

BTW Mark, just had a look at your site, very very nice polished layout and style. I notice two things, you have an entry with a number 000000.htm - this has caused issues with GM in the past I beleive and second you have a very large archives page (naturally with 3500 + entries) and also a very long home page. out of interest when does the rebuild time out? - on which phase? cheers Pete
