I have a website on a rented Unix server.
The owner tells that the server only can use pl scrips - not cgi script.
I have tried to rename all files to "pl" and all the links in the cgi files and so on, but is there another way to go?

Greymatter will not run for you, unless you modify the code itself. Some of the .cgi files are actually data files. They are named .cgi so that the webserver won't show them (display as plain text). Greymatter is hardcoded to look for those files with the name.
You would have to change the code so that it will look for gm-authors.pl. If you do this, grep for .cgi and that will show which lines you have to change.
