Is it possible to rename the author in individual past entries? I've tried to edit each entry cgi file with limited success as the original name still appears in the archive index. In what file is the index entry data stored and is it possible to manually text edit without messing up greymatter?
The reason I want to do this is because some of my authors used their real names to post in the past and now want them removed because of privacy from search engines, I dont want to unlist my site, nor close all the posts in question... Thanks for any input!

The author name comes from the gm-authors.cgi file when the entry is created. It is stored in the archives/000...cgi file. If you do a rebuild after you change those files, then the archive index will change.
You can edit those files directly, as long as you save 'as text' and don't change the format. Unfortunately you can't use Search and Replace to do author changes, but it might be available in a later version.
Greymatter generates static content. When you view your archives index, you are viewing a static page that only updated when you do a rebuild, add/edit an entry. Even commenting only causes the main index and the specific entry page to be rebuilt.

Just the solution I was looking for! Thank you once again for all the time you spend helping us mortals understand Greymatter.

Not a problem, I learn stuff about Gm daily myself.
