Is it not possible to add a footer (so as to include the required Google Analytics code) to pages other than home and archive index, including to all individual entries already made in past?
I've added it to footer via Edit Header Footer & Sidebar Templates and so I expect to see it on every page.
Judging by the explanatory text, it looks like the template I need for individual entries is Editing Entry page-related Templates, even though this sounds more like the 'home page' to an uninitiated. I've checked the code for this template and it definitlely includes {{footer}}. But when you look at source on a web page for a past item the Google Analtics text is not there. The only places I can see it are home and index.
Many thanks. (Windows XP; GM 1.3; Perl: don't know)

Stuart, It sounds like you are the right path to doing what you want. Remember that where ever you would like the footer template to be located, place the {{footer}} tag. Check each one of the following Templates making should the {{footer}} tag is in the right spot then save the Templates and do a Rebuild all pages. - Edit Templates > Editing Archive-Related Templates > Archive Master Index TemplateEdit Templates > Editing Archive-Related Templates > Archive Log Index Template
- Edit Templates > Editing Entry Page-Related Templates > Entry Page Template: Current Standard Entries
- Edit Templates > Editing Entry Page-Related Templates > Entry Page Template: Current Extended Entries
- Edit Templates > Editing Entry Page-Related Templates > Entry Page Template: Archived Standard Entries
- Edit Templates > Editing Entry Page-Related Templates > Entry Page Template: Archived Extended Entries
Hope this helps, Carlos

Thanks, Carlos. Each of the templates has {{footer}} as last item of code - hence my surprise. Any other ideas? Stuart

Stuart,
Now that you are sure the Templates are all correct do a 'Rebuild All Pages' in your Control Panel.
Enjoy, Carlos

When I try to rebuild files I get this error message: "Can't persist the token. Please make sure that your archive directory is CHMODed 777" Means something to somebody but nothing to me! No clues in Configure menu. Auto rebuild is selected by default, btw.

Stuart, CHMOD is a command that is used to set file permissions on Unix and Linux Systems. You might want to read these past posts: They have links in them to pages that show how to set file permissions on Windows XP. Hope this helps, Carlos

Carlos, This looks really menacing to an uninitiated. Before I spend time on it, can you tell me i) whether any problem to do with permissions is specific to the machine I'm working on (I also edit the site at home using W2000) ii) if I've successfully rebuilt files in past what does that imply? By way of background, is the point about Linus and Unix that one or other is used by the server hosting the site? Thanks, Stuart

Stuart,
The only OS that matters is the one that Greymatter is running on. Greymatter should work on any Web Server with Perl 5.6 or higher, but some settings will change depending on which OS you are using.
Did you do an upgrade of the Greymatter from a past version?
It would be a good idea to run 'Diagnostics & Repair' to make sure the your new settings and file paths are OK.

Carlos, Haven't done an upgrade ever. Diagnostics and Repair done and reports OK. Tried to rebuild from other PC but same error message. I'll have a conversation with web site hosts to see if they can shed any light but in the past they've not been able to help with Greymatter issues. I notice that the last two posts have got the Google Analytics code in the source code - it's possible they are the only ones posted since the Google code was added to the footer. But don't know what that implies. If I knew all new posts would be picked up by Google that would be something. Stuart

If you can't do a rebuild, then your template changes will only affect your new entries.
What type of machine is your Greymatter site running on? It won't matter what machine you use to access the admin site.
