hi,
i'm a fool, no doubt, but checked it three times - and detected no solution. it would be fine, if someone can solve this:
updated from 1.3 to 1.7.3. - nice, and i'm happy about the spam-defence. it seems all okay, diagnostic is fine, but then:
greymatter isn't able to (re)build the log archives complete - this works only till january 2005. the process stopps with an "error 500".
but all older entries are there, can be called and displayed for each day, also the monthly overview is there, but the corresponding document wasn't created. (i.e. "archive-122004.htm" is missing.)
(in the archiv-overview the linked line "Januar 2005" is fine and works, but "Dezember 2004" already doesn't work, because there is no such file.)
i think, all CHMODs and pathes are ok - by the way: the instruction doesn't tell anything abot the CHMOD for gm.cgi - and tested this and that -- but no solution :-(
(maybe this fits to the problem: after performing diagnostic i lost my template-codes. (inscribed them manually later.))
anyone an idea? that would be fantastic.
thanks in advance.

No worries, no one is going to call you a fool.
When its rebuilding the log archives, does it stop right way, or is it a long wait (a timeout)?
Are you able to rebuild the rest of your site by choosing the different rebuild options?

hello, master coldstone,
thanks, and yes, all other rebuilds work.
by rebuilding the log archives it always stopps with the 500-er error after ca. 10-15 seconds. (never had this with version 1.3, but to many spam.)
kind regards, foolish homer ;o) (mr.homer about himself.)

I would guess there there is something in one of your archive files that it doesn't like.
Are you able to run diagnostics and repair? When you look at your gm-entrylist file, does everything look alright (no weird characters)?

hi, thanks, and hmmm. the first missing (not rebuilded / generated) archiv-file ("archive-012004.htm") is with gm 1.3 okay (html-table with normal entries, complete). ((if i copied it manually, the rebuilding process delete it.)) hu, strange: sometimes gm generates till and inclusive "archive- 012005.htm", sometimes only till "archive- 052005.htm"... and stopps everytime with an error 500. ((and the browsers re-links "archive- 012005.htm" (if it wasnt genreated) to "archive- 102005.htm" - but thats not important, i guess.)) the gm-entrylist file seems to be okay, no irregular lines, all entries. (there was a little mistake, one line (entry) missed, but solved the problem in cgis. now this seems allright.) Diagnostics & Repair seems to be okay, it's always "Complete": All operations were completed successfully. Greymatter successfully checked and/or performed the following: - All config files are readable/writeable and are CHMODed correctly
- The local CGI path is correctly configured and all essential files are there
- The entries/archives path is readable/writeable and is CHMODed correctly
- The archive index file is readable/writeable and is CHMODed correctly
- All entry files are working correctly
- The entry list was successfully rebuilt
- The main index file is readable/writeable and is CHMODed correctly
CHMODed to 755: gm-cgi, gm-karma, gm-upload, gm-comments - 644: gm-library and all files in the libs - 666: all other cgi and every rebuilding works - except "archiv log indexes" and "everything". i have no idea. :-( in the gm-cgi i noticed one remark with: { &gm_rebuildarchivelogindexes; } the code in the library-file, beginning at line 5468: edit: with no changes by me.

I think the error is happening in gm_generatearchive() method. I will look around some. I was wondering if I posted some code to give some debug out put, if you would run it?

I have the same problem. Rebuilding of the archives-log does not work. I just had to change servers and had to change the configuration. Everything works, the site runs fine.
Any idea how I can work out this problem? Rebuild everything also does not work
Thanks!

How far does the rebuild get? Is there a particular date that it seems to stop at?

Ubuntu Feisty Apache2 2.2.3 Perl 5.8.8 GM 1.8.2
I have three GMs running and one keeps having issues with rebuilding archive log files. I have been able to fix it by removing all files in the archives folder, reset the gm-counters and gm-entrylist and recreate the entries, but the problem comes back shortly there after.
I can run all other rebuild except archive log and all because it gets stuck in the same place.
No errors in apache error log and only see the follow in the access log:
[19/Jun/2008:13:01:33 -0700] "GET /cgi-bin/features/gm.cgi?authorname=paul&authorpassword=secret§ion=rebuild&rebuilding=archivelogs&autorebuild=&rebuildfrom=logarchives&connectednumber=2 HTTP/1.1" 200 6464 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14"
Likely solutions it to just recreate the one having issues, but thought I would bring the problem up.
Other issues I've noted on the installs:
1) After installing, running config & test. I create the first page and get an error 'archives/index.html does not exist'. I then run 'Rebuild everything' and all is good.
2) After I modify a template and have it rebuild everything on save, it doesn't seem to work. I then have to go to the rebuild page and rebuild everything again.
3) {karmaform} does not work. If I move the code to {customxxx} it works. Otherwise I just see {karmaform} in the page. (yes I really use double {}, just don't want strange things to show here if possible)

I'll look into this, I am using Karma link, but will check out karmaform.

It seems I've just lost another install with same issue. I've been doing some heavy template changes and haven't actually added any entries, but now that I added another one (total of two now) this install is also failing in the same way.

What happens when you rebuild? Do you get a specific error or does something else happen?
Also, when things go weird, what values do your gm-counter file has? I wonder if it is somehow being mangled.

When I do a 'Rebuild Archive Log Indexes' or 'Rebuild Everything' it just keeps refreshing 'Rebuild archive log files (0% done)...' and in the access log I see the request over and over (as noted in previous post) until I leave the page.
One install has:
karmapos=2 karmaneg=1 entrytotal=2 commenttotal=1 closedtotal=0 opentotal=0 stayattopentry=0 archivetotal=0
The other has:
karmapos=3 entrytotal=2 karmaneg=1 commenttotal=0 stayattopentry=0 opentotal=0 closedtotal=0 archivetotal=0
Nothing looks out of place. When I first encountered this problem Counter looked like:
karmapos=0 entrytotal=2 karmaneg=0 commenttotal=0 stayattopentry=0 opentotal=0 closedtotal=0 archivetotal=0
