Sometime in 2008, we will be rolling out a new navigation system. There are many ways to do this, but our goal is to reduce the number of clicks to get where you want to be and avoid jumping back to the main menu screen all the time. The easiest way to do this is to have a full menu on every page, or rather, a highlevel menu, with a detailed sub-menu (depending on which high-level area you are in) such as: - Configuration
- Entries
- New Entry
- View Entries
- Search & Replace
- Templates
- ...
Ideally, we would like to give the user's a choice between different layouts, but this takes longer and is more complicated. Hopefully, CSS can be used to change the menu display (hiding it, tabs, sidebar, etc.) to create a more flexible navigation system. The hardest choice would be to keep the current system as well as a new one. Currently, each page decides what buttons to show, rather that just showing a 'navigation menu'. To keep the old and add new, would require that each page have some logic like 'if old navigation show "Return to main menu" else show new navigation menu'. However, most pages have at least one other button, sometimes more. So, vote and let us know whats important to you!

oh wow! this will be great. i was just thinking about this whenever i have to go back and forth and rebuild the pages whenever i'm experimenting with layouts and messing with the html and sutff. i think i ended up stripping GM of ALL html and leaving only the barebone codes and moving it to a seperate html file just to get around the hassle of clicking back and forth so much. this would rock though. just wanted to post to show my support and that i'm sure i'll like whatever you do.

That would be awesome, & ditto what "tact" said, whatever you do will be great.
The main gripe i've got with the menu system is uploading multiple files into one post, makes for lots of back & forth & copying & pasting the urls.. Thanks for keeping greymatter alive!
