So, yeah, hi. :)
A friend recently reminded me that it was ten years ago this month that I put out the first version of Greymatter. And that made me think that I'm long, long, LONG overdue to say something here: namely, Thank You.
And... I'm profoundly sorry that I didn't tell you this much earlier. Not to rehash a lot of ancient history here, but long story short, I was massively unprepared for a lot of things that happened to me publicly and privately after GM came out, and for a long time I just wanted to put it as far behind me as I could. And yes, a part of that was, and still is, because I know that the original "code" was one of the most abysmal excuses for programming that's ever been foisted on an undeserving internet... I haven't seen myself burned in effigy anywhere around here yet, but for that alone you'd be within your rights.
Anyway, gawd knows I had no right to hope or expect that anyone would want to keep GM going after I abandoned it, especially once infinitely better things came along. I still don't know *why* you have, but the fact that you did has been -- I can finally say -- one of the true signal honors of my life. Everything that's good in GM now, every reason anyone still gives a d**n about it ten years later, is one thousand percent because of you guys... and for me to have acknowledged all this much, MUCH longer ago than this is the very least of what you deserve.
I cannot be sorry enough, and I cannot thank you enough, for everything.
