Hi there,
I've placed the news on my home page so I don't have to keep updating the html and upload; but if I post more than 4 messages it messes around with my template.
With that in mind is there a way that admin can select how many messages you want displayed on each page?
Lets say I select 3 messages to display, the 4th would automatically go to archive.
Anyway hope that makes sense, having fun playing around with the package, weldone.

I think Greymatter can do what you want. There is a "Days to keep on main index". If you only post one entry per day, then you could set that to 3.
Greymatter wants to keep all the days entries on the same page, but I can see your point, to control the number of entries.

Thanks coldstone for replying so quick. The 'number of days' to keep on main index page sadly wouldn't work for me as I might post only once in 4 days depending on my news, and if I close a news topic it takes it off the archive list also.
Anyway I'm happy to pay towards the implementation of my idea into gm as I feel it will make a small improvement.
Thanks again.

That number isn't chronological days but rather days posted on:
(if you had the number set to 3) Ie. If you post Sunday, Tuesday, Wed all those entries would be on the main page If you post Sun, Mon, Wed, Thurs then Mon, Wed, Thurs would be on the main page
I don't know how closing an entry affects this, that's something the guys coding the new software should look into though. IE if you post Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues and you close Mon then does it displau just Sun, Tues or Sat, Sun, Tues?

Yes, if you close an entry, Greymatter will just ignore it and go on. So in your example it would show Sat, Sun, Tues.
Thanks hazelorb, I missed the issue that simsyuk responded with. The "Days to keep on main index" isn't how long, its really, "Number of entries to keep on main index". However, there is a catch. If you post three times in one day, Greymatter will treat that as just one day. So thats why its 'days to keep'.
As far as I know, it could be changed to simply show a number of entries, regardless of which day it falls on, however, the templates are currently geared toward the idea of using a 'day' as a grouping for a set of entries. So that would have to change as well.
