Hi All, It seems that I corrupted my files accidentally while it was rebuilding a latest entry that I posted. My laptop's battery died in the middle of the rebuild and that seems to have corrupted my GM installation.
Here are the problems that I am facing: 1. I am able to adda new entry that shows in the GM Entry Selection but when I try to rebuild the files, it doesn't rebuild and shows a blank page. Same when I try to run diagnostics and repair. It shows a blank page. It doesn't refresh my index.html either.
2. The monthly archive files from my archive directory are gone! I had a section on my website to link to Monthly archives and the entries that are created in the archives for that particular month are gone. GM doesn't seem to be recreating them either.
3. I tried to install from the scratch but have no clue how get the entries to date back to the date and time when they were originally posted.
I had uploaded this site after my son's birth last year to post his activities for our friends and family and now it all seems to be dying down. Please help. As far as I know, something in my archives directory is not working. But that could be a part of the bigger problem or I could be wrong.
Looking forward to your help.
Thanks!

Ok, hopefully all is not lost (sorry, no pun intended). The archive files you mentioned should be rebuilt by gm, so if they are missing its not a big deal, but it tells us that GM is not getting to that part of the rebuild process. Here are some steps I would recomend trying: Write back if there are still issues. Also, how did you move your files? Another user noticed that Windows line endings can cause GM a problem. FTP programs can change the formating of files. Lastly, here is a page with some good general advice as well: greymatterforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=gmtroubleshooting&action=display&thread=1158558341

Hi Coldstone, Thanks a ton for your reply. However, I could not get the files to work. I did everything the way you mentioned above but it went back to it's old ways as soon as posted the .cgi files in the archives directory. I tried running the Diagnostics and Repairs but after a wait of 2-3 minutes it went back to the blank white screen.
Then I also tried rebuilding the files and after about 2-3 minutes that too showed a white blank screen.
I am not sure what you mean by how I moved my files. If you mean ASCII format, then yes, I moved them in the ASCII format. I will appreciate any further responses.
Thanks a lot again!

Also one more thing - I have 114 entries and this is how it updated my gm-counter file 114 0 0 0 0
0 0
There is one digit missing in there.
It did not make ANY changes to the gm-entrylist file. It is blank.

Ok so I checked each of my files individually and found out that one file was missing the entry post date information and that is why it was messing up everything else.
I corrected the information in the file and my site is up and running now. Thanks for your help again coldstone :-)

No problem, but seems like this shouldn't have been so hard for GM to handle better. I will enter a thread in the bug forums to look at this later. Seems like it should be able to use a default date instead of freaking out.
Glad everything is working. Thanks for posting the solution back.

I also have the same problem but it's only about not being able to post new entries (I could actually make the entry but shows a blank page after). I can't dignose or rebuild files.
What could be the problem and how could I fix this? I did upgrade it to the latest and deleted the contents of gm-counter.cgi and gm-entrylist.cgi (but leave the files) but it's still the same.

What errors do you get when you try to run "Diagnose and Repair"? You have to run that to rebuild your counter and entrylist files.

Did you check your files for missing entry dates? That was the issue previously.
Also, you may have issues with window's style line endings. Have you edited any of your entries by hand recently? Editors can introduce funky characters.
Does your gm-entrylist have anything in it after trying to rebuild?

There is nothing in the gm-enteylist and I can't rebuild in the first place. Thanks. Did you check your files for missing entry dates? That was the issue previously. If you make a backup of your 'archives' directory, you can then remove all the .html files. Then you can try to do a 'rebuild'. Then you can see how far GreyMatter got rebuilding the files be seeing which .html files were generated.
Try this and then we can look at the specific problem file.

I deleted all .html files from the archive folder then rebuilt "everthing". After a while, it shows the Internal server error as below + nothing seem to be rebuilt as I don't see any html files in the archive folder.
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Hmm, thats not good. Could be there is an issue with your very first entry, or maybe its a permission thing. I will look at this more tonight.
Are you able to edit that file in GreyMatter (your first entry)?
