hey there gang, im running the new 1.8 version (previously 1.3 version) i wanted to turn on comments, so i ticked all the settings to allow comments. -nothing happened.
so i saved a copy of my old header templates etc, and upload the new cgi file. i then checked all the allow comment settings and rebuilt the website.
im getting some very strange results:
yes i got the new white home page (including calendar and search box) on the front page. yes the comments feature appeared.
i clicked on comments feature to test post a comment, and the layout went back to the old template! i clicked back, now all pages are in the old template format! i changed the username/permissions etc, to stop visitors from seeing my log in name, by setting up a normal poster account which could view and edit its own posts only... only it wouldnt let me post at all. so i changed the permissions to edit index template only, and it allowed me to post.
i posted and went to view the site, now its in the old style again, with no comments allowed.
short of going round in circles, anyone got any ideas please?
thanks in advance

The comments being turned on will not alter your templates. So if you turn on comments, you must also modify your templates. Depending on how you setup your templates, changing just the Header Template may not affect all the site pages.
With that in mind, I would suggest you make a backup of your gm-templates.cgi file and use the template file that came with your 1.8 greymatter. Once everything is working how you wish, then modify the templates to look like your old site.
What error do you get when you try to post with the user who can only view/post their own entries? The issue with having a post-only account who can't edit the index template is that the user should be able to post an entry, but it will not show up, since the site doesn't get rebuilt. A user who can rebuild the site would have to rebuild in order to "publish" the post-only user's entry.
