Hi,
Two ideas, both surrounding upload and display of images.
#1 Restricting the image display size
Through a short few weeks of having posts on our blogs, I'm seeing a lot of images uploaded which conform to no standard size which can really mess up the look. So the germ of an idea for a mod has been developing.
#2 Keeping an index of available images in gm
Next mod question or suggestion is rather than uploading the image and keeping its original name (which means you can't upload two images of the same name) instead upload it with a GM generated name and allow anyone creating a post to insert images from an index of uploaded images to insert at any point in their post. e:
When you try to upload an image that's already in the index the system would tell you that file is already there, give you the index item(s) in a list so you can confirm whether you want to continue to add the image, or even overwrite an existing item.
Thanks for reading - hopefully I've given some food for thought here. If there's a way of achieving this without a gm mod happy to hear about that too
Cheers!
Geoff

- Give the administrator the ability to define a maximum height, or width, or both for images displayed on the site.
- When an image is uploaded smaller than these dimensions it's displayed without modification.
- When an image is uploaded that's larger in any dimension than the standards that have been set, when it's displayed in the blog it's displayed to suit the admin's defined spec, with a mouse click on the image popping up the full size image.

- You upload the image file and there's an additional field for 'description'
- When you want to insert an image into your post you pull up a list of images on the server which has 3 columns: Image ID#, description, original image filename.
- The server doesn't store the images as their original name, but as the image id suffixed by the existing image suffix of .jpg, .png, .gif etc
- There needs to be a way of deleting unused images off the system and therefore out of the index. Perhaps that's as simple as having the image index rebuilt when all others are, removing references to images that are no longer on the server...meaning the administrator has to go into the OS to remove unwanted ones. I'm sure there's a more elegant way to do this though.
