Hi guys,
I have just been testing 1.7.3 in the ban IP screen and adding an IP is fine. I also would like to ban somene based on username but I am not sure thats a good idea. the screen blocks this of course now. What would be the issues in banning based on username? - ban good people as well as bad if they share names - maybe but the name i wanted to ban i know is bad and I doubt anyone good would use it.
what does everyine think, should we just ban on IP?
cheers
Pete

Banning on IP has limits and a ban on User Names would also have limits, but still the ban of User Names that are less than tasteful would be good.

That was my view as well Carlos, i think if its used carefully its fine. Banning on IP has issues if the spammers move around or use proxies.
Maybe we should start a central blacklist or use the MT blacklist so that we could have a button in the ban IP screen that simply went off and updated from a central ban list. It would be useful to also include all known proxies.
cheers

I can see banning by username being usefull, we could make it an optional field. Currently the forums allow you to ban by one of three options, username, ip, and email address. Email isn't probably going to be as big a deal for us (currently), but I can seen either/or for ip and name.
