I have edited a custom template (l/h sidebar) and it now views correctly on index page but not archived pages. Since the edits are links to a new business website that the blog is associated with, and since most traffic starts at the blog site, this is a bit serious!
I have tried to reconfigure and get message everything configured correctly.
Now, every time I try to rebuild all files or reconfigure again, I get a message 'can't persist the token. Please make sure that your archive directory is CMHODed 777.' I've seen this in past and never understood it because it seems to conflict with the advice on the Configuration page (although this is also in an area recommended for experts only!).
If everything is indeed configured correctly, why that message? But there again, if correct, why don't the archived pages change when I rebuild all files?
Anyone got any ideas, please?

You should check your permissions on the archive directory. It is trying to save a token file there, so that it can rebuild all the files. If it can't do that, then I would expect only the first 10 entries of your site get rebuilt.
Which Configuration page advice does the CMHOD to 777 conflict with? There could be an issue with documentation.

Thanks very much - but I don't actually understand the terminology here. I'm guessing the permissions refer to the server hosting the site, which is website hosting business. I've forwarded the trail to them to see if it means anything to them. Is that the best policy or is this within my control?
No archived pages already existing before the template change have picked up the change, by the way (not the oldest or youngest 10 entries).

Did you install Greymatter for your site? If you did, then you should be able to control the permissions (by running the CHMOD command or equivalent). Basically, Greymatter wants permission to write to your archive directory, but it can't.
So, to clarify, none of your files are picking up the template change?
