I've worked with greymatter for over 3 years, never had any issues with it. I tried installing the new version 1.7.1 (I run windows xp)and everything seems to go OK, until I run diagnostic and repair and it gives me the following error:
Can't create files in /home/www/ex0tica/archives. Make sure the entries/archives path is correctly configured and that this directory is CHMODed to 777
now, ive tried EVERYTHING, Im not new to greymatter and there seems to be something wrong!! but I dont what it is

OK so I remembered I had another greymater set up in my server, I logged in and used the same configuration paths, (they're the same, only thing that changes is the archives folder's name)
And now when I run diagnostics and repair this is the message I get:
Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/gm.cgi.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
I dont get it, greymatter always worked fine for me.
thanx

I just ran MasterPreInstallationTester.cgi and this is what I got: DOCUMENT_ROOT: /www/ex0tica.com.ar/htdocs PATH: /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin SERVER_SOFTWARE: Apache Perl version — 5.008003 and everything else seems to be installed and running smoothly, except for greymatter

It could be your perl version. 5.00 is an older version.
Upgrading your perl to at least 5.6 will help. However, you may have a newer version of perl but it might not be used by gm. Ask your web host if they have a new version of Perl available and update the cgi scripts to use that version.
What version of GreyMatter were you running before? It could be an issue with your paths. Can you post your path configurations?

I'm having the same issue. It's not my path or permissions, either. I have Perl 5.6.1. Any other ideas??

That message is only given in one part of the code, when GreyMatter tries to do its diagnostics and repair. It attempts to open a file:
{EntriesPath}/gm-testfile.txt Can you check if this file aready exists? Maybe something got messed and now the file is blocking GM. If the file isn't there, can you post your Paths and the exact error message you get?
