Is GreyMatter still being developed? ???

Reason I ask is that the Wikipedia entry for the project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greymatter_(software)) claims that "Greymatter is believed to be "dead"."

I've been using GM for about six years as a platform for a "Technical Diary" - like a day-to-day diary, along with a useful place to put all those little one-line command-line wonders that a *nix geek comes across. GM's low requirements made it ideal for this, but if it's a dead project then I guess I'd better look for a replacement, along with a way to get out all the data I've put into it so far. :'(

Greymatter uses a flat text database( i.e. all the database file are readable with a text editor). But over time the format of those files have changed some, so first which version are you currently using?

I'm using version 1.8.2 (tried to keep relatively current with the releases), and it looks like I last updated in April of 2008.

Thanks for the reply, and apologies for not getting back to you - I'd thought I'd seen a mail-on-reply option somewhere. :(

Hi Crossy,

I have not had time to be on this board for a long time but i do still use Greymatter myself on a number of blogs on my sites. I still prefer it because it doesnt use a database and for me thats more secure.

I did start a number of mods some time ago and i cannot promise to go back to them at this stage i am just too busy developing software for my company.

There is a later version of Greymatter though, version 1.8.3; I posted here about it and asked for some testers but not many helped. I have emailed it to a number of people since who have used it. The major thing added is the ability to have posts whose URL's are not the numbers "000000023.html" or whatever. you can choose the URL yourself such as "my_new_post.html".

If you (or anyone else of course) would like a copy then you can send me an email to get it. My domain is my name "petefinnigan" and its a com domain and you can get me with pete at - i am sure you can work it out from that!

cheers

Pete

Pete,
I sent you an email and would be glad to test 1.8.3

I understand that I should install 1.8.2 first and then upgrade to 1.8.3 files?

I have tried emailing you but they keep bouncing back.
My current email address is attached to this account.

bill wants to be a beta tester for 1.8.3 even should it be a complicated upgrade.
