Hi,
I have a client who wants me to migrate his website for him. He is not technically inclined and I felt like I was reverse-engineering a spaceship trying to make heads or tails of why the website looked funky after migration.
It turns out he has a number of cgi scripts, and they appear to be associated with grey matter (they have the prefix gm_). I modified the cgi config file I found and change the paths and chmodded it to 666 but nothing has changed.
Can you guys help? Is there any way to do this quickly and easily? I don't want to reinstall and I'm unfamiliar with grey matter (and cgi - for that matter) I'm a php guy.

David,
Some of Greymatter's files get chmodded to 755 and some to 666. The files that are program files like gm.cgi get 755 and data files get the 666, but this only matters when using the Admin, Comment, Karma or the Upload Interfaces.
When Greymatter does a Build it generates static pages of whatever type the user has selected (i.e. *.html, *.shtml, *.php ) by combining the data files with the templates files.
Do you have a link for the pages in question that we could look at?

To expand upon Carlo's post, the files: gm.cgi, gm-comments.cgi, gm-karma.cgi, gm-upload.cgi need to be chmoded 755. Depending on the error, it could be something as simple as a bad perl path. Are you getting errors in the logs, or is it how the site looks that is the issue?

Hi David,
Not sure if it will be of use to you as it sounds like you have already moved GM but I have an article that shows how to take an existing GM installation and copy it to another machine or location on the same machine and then how to "clean" it so that it can start out as a new blog. I appreciate this is not the same as what you are doing but it may help cover all the peices involved.
